Review ~ Darkness of Love By Catherine Green

Blurb:
Lord Gregory Stockton is a powerful and respected businessman embracing the modern era of the Victorian industrial revolution. He has a grand and beautiful manor house complete with a repertoire of servants, and his young wife is charming, attractive, and the perfect lady to his gentleman. The only thing they lack is an heir to the family estate.

Lord Gregory knows he can never produce a child, for he is a vampire, although his wife and servants know nothing of his secrets.

There are other ways to provide heirs for his estate, however, and Lord Gregory has noticed the romantic attraction between his wife and the young stable hand Marcus Scott. He hatches a plan to bring the would-be lovers together, and then cruelly tear them apart as he continues to build his empire and secure his power base in the south of England.

The humans are pawns in the vampire’s game of lust, love and control.

Review:
I was torn.
Believing the deception of Gregory made me cringe in the beginning. I don't normally read or tolerate such an act in a book, or in real life... but Ms Green saves the day later and renewed my faith in morals.

The villain personality of Gregory does show. But then again... so did it with Marcus. Decisions, decisions. Who to believe is the antagonist and who is not. Mixed emotions here. But the intrigue and drama that unfolds does balance out the deception.

I wish the story had been longer for one reason. That being the development of Gregory and Sarah's life together prior to this and then again after. I can foresee a second book, whether being played off Gregory and Sarah's lives, or perhaps with them being secondary characters.

All this being said, and considering I am not normally a 'vampire', paranormal fan/reader, I did enjoy Ms Green's weaving of a story. Her writing style is wonderful and clear nad I would recommend this book to readers.

Review ~ Waking Up Dead by Margo Bond Collins

Blurb:
When Callie Taylor died, she expected to go to heaven—or maybe hell. Instead, when she was murdered in Dallas by some jerk with a knife and a bad-mommy complex, she went to Alabama. Now she’s seen another murder, and she can’t just let it go; she must find a way to make sure the police figure out who really killed Molly McClatchy before an innocent man goes to prison, all the while trying to determine how and why she woke up dead in Alabama.

Review:
While paranormal are not my usual cup o' tea... I have to say that Ms Bond Collins had me rethinking my stance on this genre. The plot, the characters' three-dimensional aspects had me reading and turning the pages faster than I can ever remember.

Yes, it was a fast paced read but the thought and intricate details added to the story line were superb. I commend Bond Collins for such a great read. She had me contemplating the society we live in and what would happen if... oh wait! I don't want to give any spoilers here. All I can say is give this book a try... you will NOT regret it.

Review ~ The Tearings by V.C. Repetto

Blurb:
From the moment the black vans appear to take the sick away, Maya knows there is something wrong. She seems to be the only one to question the sudden disappearances at school and the masks everyone is forced to wear to keep from catching the new disease spreading through the entire United States. Even when word of the new “healing centers” reaches the public, no one dares to ask what is happening. But when Maya catches the disease, the one they call The Tearings, and is taken to one of these centers along with her mother, the truth becomes all too clear. She is separated from her family and forced to work, becoming one of the more fortunate ones who is not sent to the testing wings. Bullied by the guards to the point of death, she meets David Summers, the enigmatic young Captain who appears to loathe his position of power in the camp and who seems as drawn to Maya as she is to him. When Maya suddenly becomes the disease’s only survivor, she must put her trust on David to find a way to escape the camp and get the truth, and the cure coursing through her veins, out to the world.

Review:
What a fabulous debut novel by V.C. Repetto!

The mystery, the unknown, the fear... all these add up to a great story. The character development was right on spot and the way V.C. gave a look into Maya's fear and how she watched the advancement of the 'disease' made for an exciting plot.

I enjoyed the story from beginning to end and reveled in the YA/NA dramatics that Repetto added to the story. Maya was on 'death's doorstop' shall we say and, enter, David. This addition made quite a nice twist, especially as Maya becomes healthy again.

Review ~ A Season for Romance by Amy Blizzard

Blurb:
This holiday season take a moment to escape the chaos of crowded stores and the cold winter chill outside.
From a gingerbread contest to a fireman at a Christmas Ball... From a possible devastating disease to a rock star who’s a sucker for animals to a soloist with the voice of an angel...
'A Season for Romance,' a collection of holiday novelettes by Amy
Blizzard, shares five tender love stories that will warm the heart.

Review:
Gingerbread and Mistletoe
Opposites attract? Most definitely in this short, but very lovable, holiday read. Matt, the baker and 'normal' neighbor versus eccentric, pink Christmas tree toting Riley... what's a man to do but fall in love with her.
Fast paced but holds a powerful punch for any lover of holiday magic and love.

The Snowflake Ball
Heartwarming and full of innocent love. Ms Blizzard hits the target with this short holiday read. Chloe has a previous bad memory of the holidays while Woody attempts to help her accept and face the problem. The love at first sight between the two almost falters as Chloe (Dr. Miller) uses the "doctor-patient" connection as a reason for not dating. In reality, she's attracted, but still hiding behind her previous life altering moment that has ruined the holiday season for many years.
Fast paced  yet very entertaining and warms the soul read.

Make a Joyful Noise

I highly recommend this collection of holiday reads from Amy Blizzard. If you are in the mood for quick reads that will warm your heart and make you smile, this is the book for you.

The other two books in this collection are Christmas Wishes and Second Chances and
A Season for Puppy Love, both are wonderful reads also. I will leave these reviews alone to allow new fans to check out Ms Blizzard's work.

Review ~ Mistletoe Magic By Melissa McClone

Blurb:
Spending a quiet Christmas house-sitting and reading novels about hot cowboys sounds perfect to Caitlin. Until a stray kitten brings her face-to-face with Noah, her crush from college. Watching the handsome vet in action melts Caitlin's heart and brings back long forgotten emotion. She would be safer back at the house lost in the pages of a book. But a toe-curling mistletoe kiss tempts her to stay. Maybe she won't be spending this Christmas… alone.

Veterinarian Noah Sullivan isn't a Scrooge, but the Christmas Eve tradition of hanging mistletoe in the clinic's waiting room annoys him. Kissing doesn't belong at the Copper Mountain Animal Hospital. Noah rethinks his position when Caitlin Butler arrives with a stray kitten she found freezing in the snow. All he wants now is to maneuver the pretty preschool teacher under the mistletoe. If he's not careful, he'll wind up on Santa's naughty list.

Mistletoe Magic is a short story companion to the Copper Mountain Christmas series.

Review:
What a sweet, sweet, sweet way to introduce this series.

I appreciated the way Melissa McClone wove the story, back story and possibility of a future between past 'lovers' Noah and Caitlin.

With this being a series (and not having read the other books after this prequel), I have to say I would love to see how Noah and Caitlin's relationship would blossom more. I will definitely search out the other books in this Copper Mountain Christmas series, as well as other work by Ms McClone.

Review ~ Some Like It Sinful (A Perfect Recipe Novel) by Robbie Terman

Blurb:

Their attraction is sinfully delicious…

A struggling business and one act of vandalism may have brought them together, but bakery owner Chloe Nelson and professional hockey player Griffin Lange get along like chocolate and pickles. Chloe needs the famous (and famously unattached) Griffin to attract people to her pastries, and Griffin needs the curvaceous and fiery Chloe to keep him out of trouble. A fake relationship to keep the media interested seems like the perfect plan.

But when temptation throws them into bed together, a new plan arises. Why not make the fake real? Griffin’s winning every home game, and Chloe’s business has never been better. Both know it’s only physical—and only temporary. But can they drop their defenses for love, even if it means getting a little bit sinful?

Review:
I have a die-hard love for small town love and romance. I also have a matching desire to cook and bake. When you combine these 'ingredients' into a novel, you have me hooked.

I'll be honest here- I have never read Ms Terman's work before. That being said... I can guarantee, it will not be the last novel of hers that I read.

Chloe's attitude and personality- LOVED it! Griffin's egotistical ways... made me want to bash him at first. But after settling in to read the book, I forgave him for his earlier moments and chalked it up to not knowing what true/real love could be. Terman's ability to scoop me up into the plot was excellent. I applaud her writing style and look forward to reading more.

I realized after reading this book, that Ms Terman has another Perfect Recipe novel out there- move outta the way while I find it! I look forward to more reads from Terman.

Review ~ Once Upon A Montana Christmas by Alanna Lucas

Review:
Beautifully written!  Three letters to describe Ms Lucas' historical holiday western romance? OMG!

Ms Lucas has a way of bringing the reader into her story with unbelievable descriptions. My favorite one that brought back memories of living in the country was this, "The wraparound veranda would probably be most pleasant on warm summer evenings, and the sound of a nearby babbling creek would soothe the soul after a long days work." I sat for a moment, reliving quiet spring mornings and the sounds of nature that surrounded me.

The development of the story and love and passion between Eva and Hunt was incredible. No quick passion. No doubt in the readers' minds that this could/would happen. Ms Lucas built the connection with superb delight.

I would love to see, and recommend to Ms Lucas, to make this a great series. Play off other townspeople.  While there were really no secondary characters from town, I believe Ms Lucas could accomplish this task.

I highly recommend this short read to anyone in love with the old west and historical western romance.

Review ~ Incarnation by Susan Nolan

Blurb:
Katherine Blair has no idea she possesses supernatural abilities. Not until Richard St. James, an intriguing and mysterious classmate with powerful skills of his own, initiates her into his world. Wanting to explore her newfound shape-shifting powers, she spends time getting to know Richard, only to find herself increasingly drawn to him as time goes by. Will Katherine and Richard be able to break the spell that has held her captive through the years, before it consumes her? Can their budding young love survive tragedy, or will they be torn apart?

Review:
The way Ms Nolan develops the characters of Kit and Richard left me wanting more. She gave wonderful descriptions of their pasts, the evolution of who they were and their connection made me applaud Ms Nolan's writing style. The attitude that Kit had towards Richard, in the beginning, and with Richard's so-called girlfriend,  Meredith, made me cheer for Kit's strength.

I have never read one of Ms Nolan's books before but I can definitely say I will be seeking out more of her publications. I love losing myself in a good, well-written YA or NA romance and Incarnation fit the bill for me. I would love to see the expansion of the Kit's best friend, Beth. There HAS to be a story there somewhere.

While I am not a paranormal (shape-shifter) fan, I dove into Incarnation and never looked back.
